Document required for admission

If students want to any university in Italy, they need to meet certain requirements. They need to submit some of the important documents while applying. These documents serve as proof of their skills, abilities, nationality, and identity. Universities ask for documents depending on the student's study level and course of study. However, to study in Italy, they will need the following documents:

  • Application Form: Universities in Italy will either have an online application or a paper application form. These have to be filled and submitted before the deadline.
  • Academic Documents: Attested copies of all certificates X, XII & Graduate Degree (if applicable), Mark Sheets including Backlogs (Re-sits) of the student. The final year or final semester mark sheet can be submitted later if they are currently studying in the final year of their bachelor's.
  • Transcript: Transcript from student's degree college may be required by some universities. A transcript is a consolidated mark sheet available from the College.
  • English Test Score: Evidence of English Language proficiency e.g. IELTS, TOEFL, etc. (if applicable).
  • GMAT / GRE: GRE is NOT required to study in Italy. However, if a student does have a score, then it always improves their admission chances. Submit standardized tests score e.g. GMAT, GRE (if applicable). Only some MBA programs may need the GMAT. Submit this score report too.
  • Recommendation Letters (LORs): Reference Letters may be required by the Institute. These could be from the applicant’s employer/teacher from school/college. These must be on the letter headed paper of their company or Institution
  • Photo: Two Passport sized photographs
  • Statement of Purpose (SOP): An SOP is an essay where Student must show their interest in their previous academic journey, why a specific University, why study in Italy, their career goals, how will the course help them to achieve their goals, etc.
  • Resume: Preferably one page that highlights work experience, educational qualifications, interests, additional courses, or activities students have done.
  • Portfolio: Design Portfolio (for Art, Design & Architecture Courses only)
  • Extra-curricular Activities' Certificates: Certificates & Achievements of Extracurricular Activities (if available)

Visa Process

Once the students get their Offer letter from the University of Italy, they can start the Visa Process. It is advisable to start the Visa process as soon as possible so that they can reach Italy on time before their classes begin. Here is the Visa process-step by step guide:

STEPS TO GET A STUDY VISA FOR ITALY

  • Accept an offer from a university: Students should pay any necessary fees to secure their place at the Italian university they have chosen.
  • Contact or visit their nearest consulate or embassy: Students should contact and find out the exact visa process for their home country, including the documents they need to complete, and schedule an interview for their Italian visa application.
  • Attend a visa interview: Submit the documents asked for and pay the fee for this application.
  • Wait for the results: Students will receive a visa outcome in writing.
  • Apply for a residence permit: Within eight days of arriving in Italy, students should need to apply for their residence permit at their nearest Questura — a type of police station. EU students must also complete this step within 20 days of entering the country.
  • Receive a permit: Permit may take a couple of months to be created, so within this time students may be issued with a temporary document.

REQUIREMENTS OF ITALIAN STUDENT VISA

Requirements vary depending on student's nationality and what type of visa they are applying for, but this is broadly what they will need for an Italian Student visa:

  • Passport/Travel Document: Have been issued within the previous 10 years, and the validity must not exceed 10 yrs. At least have a validity of 3 months after intended stay. Have at least 2 blank pages.
  • Visa Application Form: 2 signatures of the applicant. Application forms for minors has to be signed by both the parents in both places. 2 photographs to be submitted. Travel dates to be mentioned
  • Covering Letter: Name of the applicant, Purpose of study visa, Who will bear the expenses, Travel dates and duration of the stay.
  • Receipt of duly payment of tuition fees of the Italian University.
  • Accommodation letter.
  • Documentation regarding the applicant's economic -Proof of means of support in Italy of not less than 5977.79 Euros per one year or 459.83 Euro for each month of the academic year.
    • 3 months original bank statement signed and stamped by the bank.
    • Whereas not belonging to the applicant, the bank statement can be in the name of a family member
    • who acts a sponsor by signing a letter of commitment and enclosing a copy of their ID proof
    • Students granted a scholarship need to present copy of the Scholarship
  • Overseas medical insurance - Medical insurance with a coverage of Euros 30.000-, The medical insurance must include the “repatriation clause”.
  • Notarized no objection certificate by parents (In case of minor applicant)

Please note: The Consulate General of Italy reserves the right to request additional documents or personal interviews.

ITALIAN STUDENT VISA PROCESSING TIME

The processing of the visa application should usually take between one and three weeks, however, students should aim to schedule their visa interview around six weeks in advance. That means they should start the process two or three months before their departure date. If they leave it too much later any delays in the process could mean they don't get their visa in time.

WORKING AS A STUDENT IN ITALY

International students can usually work up to 20 hours a week with a student residence permit in Italy. However, their employer will need to organize a work permit for them, which may take up to two months to process.
